________________ 136 1 SANMATI-TARKA [ III. 25, 26 - The following two verses give the aim of the above discussion:-, (25) The digression in discussing things that do not form our subject matter is for the sake of sharpening the intellectual powers of the disciples. There is really speaking no room for all these discussions in Jaina Šāstra. (26) Both the views of absolute difference and absolute identity, are not admitted by Jaina Šāstra, Persons holding both these extreme views, not knowing the real nature of things, are totally ignorant. After undertaking the above discussion the author explains the reason of his plunging into this seemingly irrelevent discussion. His object in pursuing this discussion was to give full scope to the intellectual powers of his disciples. They should really know that the tiews quoted above are outside the pale of Jaina Šāstra. They are given here to show non-Jaina - views. For Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
