2. THE COMMENTATOR ABHAYADEVA.
In Śwetām bara and Digambara traditions there are many learned scholars2 bearing the name of Abhayadeva. The present commentator of Sanmati, named Abhayadeva comes from Ŝwetāmbara Jaina sect. We have, at our disposal, two sources as regards the personal account of this anthor. The first is his own Prasasti ( or Panegyric ) occuring at the end of his commentary on Sanmati. The second is the series of Prasastis composed by other Acāryas after Abhayadeva. The following is the oringal Prasasti ( panegyric ) written by Abhayadeva thimself :
“इति कतिपयसूत्रव्याख्यया यन्मयाप्तं । कुशलमतुलमस्मात सन्मते व्यसाथै ः ॥ भवभयमभिभूय प्राप्यतां शानगर्भ । विमलमभयदेवस्थानमानन्दसारम् ।।
पुष्यद्वान्दानवादिद्विरदधनघटाकुण्ठधीकुम्भपीठप्रध्व सोद्भ तमुक्ताफलविशदयशोराशिभिर्यस्य तूर्णम् ॥ गन्तु दिग्दन्तिदन्तच्छलनिहितपदं व्योमपर्यंतभागान् । सल्पब्रह्माण्डमाण्डोदरनिबिडभरोत्पिण्डितैः सम्प्रतस्थे । ___ प्रद्यु नसूरेः शिष्येण तत्त्वबोधविधायिनी । । तस्यैषाऽभय देवेन सम्मतेवि वृतिः कृता ।"
