We are told as to which type of samudghāta is due to the expulsion of this or that type of karma. The following table makes the point clear. 1. Vedanāsamudghäta involves the expulsion of asadvedantya
karma, 2. Kaşāyasamudghāta involves the expulsion of kaṣāyamohantya
karma. 3. Māranantika-samudghāta involves expulsion of äyukarma.
(This expulsion takes place only when there remains the last
antarmuhūrta of the present life-span). 4. Vailoriyasamudghāta involves the expulsion of vaikriyaśarirana
makarma. 5. Taijasa-samudghāta involves the expulsion of taijsaśarīranāma
karma. 6. Ahärakasamudghāta involves the expulsion of āhārakaśartra
nämakarma. 7. Kevalisamudghāta involves the expulsion of sad-asadvedaniya
karma, śubha-aśubhanāmakarma, ucca-nicagotrakarma (Prajñapanātākā, folio 559).
We are told as to how much time a particular type of samudghāta requires for its completion. Kevalisamudghāta requires 8 samayas (moments) for its completion whereas other samudghātas require an antarmuhūrta consisting of asamkhyāta samayas (2087-88).
We are informed as to how many from among the seven are possible in this or that class. The first four are found in the class of infernal beings; the first five in the classes of Bhavanapati celestial beings, sub-human beings with five senses, Vāņavyantara celestial beings, Jyotişka celestial beings, and Vaimānika celestial beings; the first three in the class of the one-sensed up to the four-sensed beings except the air-bodied; the first four in the class of the air-bodied beings; all the seven in the class of human beings (2089-92).
Afterwards it is calculated as to how many times in past could this or that type of samudghāta have been performed by a member of this or that class, also as to how many times in future can that be done. Similarly, it is calculated as to how many times in past could this or that type of samudghāta have been performed by the - members of this or that class all taken together, also as to how many times in future can that be done4 (2093–2100). Moreover, we
4. The method of calculation which takes into account first a single
member of the class and then all the members of that class taken together occurs even in șațkhandāgama, Book VII, p. 25.
