EDITORS' NOTE
DESCRIPTION OF MANUSCRIPTS
We have utilized nine mss. in preparing the critical edition of the Prajñāpanāsūtra. Out of them the three bearing signs Co, TO and to are palm-leaf mss. and the five bearing signs Ho (or so), 90, 9,5 * and I are paper mss. And the sign 1° refers to the printed model. Now let us describe them one by one.
--This palm-leaf ms. is preserved in the śāntinātha Jaina Jñāna Bhandāra, Cambay. It is numbered 17 in the Catalogue of this Bhandāra, published by Oriental Institute Baroda. It contains 161 folios. Its size is 32.2" x 2.5". The script is beautiful and condition good. Though it has no colophon, we can infer from the script that it belongs to the fourth quarter of the 14th Cent. V.S.
Fo-This is a palm-leaf ms. of the Jaina Jñāna Bhandāra, Jesalmer, established by Ācārya Śri Jinabhadrasūri of Kharatara Gaccha. In the catalogue it is listed under No. 27. It has 170 folios. The script is excellent and condition good. Its size is 321" x 24". It has been written in 1389 V. S. There is no other data at the end of the ms. except the mention of the year in which it has been written. It has no colophon.
-This ms. too belongs to the above-mentioned Bhandāra of Jesalmer. In the catalogue it is listed under No. 29. Folios 1 to 333 contain only the text of the Prajñāpanāsūtra and folios 334 to 350 contain the Prajñāparāsūtrapradeśavyakhyā by Ac. Haribhadrasūri. The script is beautiful and condition good. Fourteen folios (Nos. 7, 11, 15, 19, 56, 247,249, 253, 254, 261-263 and 291) are missing. The size is 321" x 2". The colophon reads as follows:
Samvat 1489 varse märgao sudi 10 some prajñāpanāsūtrapradeśavyakhyā likhäpitā São Balirājena ||cha|| śrīmat kharatara gacche Sri Jinabhadrasürīśvarāņām bhändägare||
In the Bhandara of Jesalmer the number of the mss. got copied by Parikha Dharanāśāha and São Balirāja-Udayarāja is very large. - Under the vague impression that this ms. might have been got copied by Dharaṇāśāha, we gave to sign to it. Had we remembered, in the beginning, that the ms. is got copied by Balirāja, we would have given it sign 20 instead of sto
