DADAGURU SHRI JINA KUSHAL SURI
The name of the four Dadagurus of the Jain Shvetambar Kharatar Gacch sect is written in golden letters in the list of efficacious acharyas known for there exemplary services to the Jain order. Yugapradhan Dada Jina Datta Suri, his able disciple Manidhari Jina Chandra Suri, Yugapradhan Shri Jina Kushal Suri, and Shri Jina Chandra Suri are famous names. They are peerless in their contributions towards promotion and spread of Jainism. They became popularly known as 'Dadaguru Dev' due to their affection, kindness, and unique deeds of extending help to their followers in need.
Of the four Dadagurus the name of the third Dadaguru, Shri Jina Kushal Suri today enjoys maximum popularity as the most altruistic and beneficent for masses and devotees. It was his astonishing determination and courage that he spent five years in Sindh, faraway from Marawar, the normal area of his activities, and worked for promotion of Jainism. In spite of the rule of Moghuls he persevered in his mission and succeeded,
He converted more than 50,000 people to Jainism by making them abstain from vices like hunting and consuming meat and wine. Besides Muslim kings, Nawabs, and hundreds of common Muslims his followers included thousands of Brahmins, Kshatriyas, etc.
More than 200 of his memorials and Dadabaris are spread all over the country in areas like Rajasthan, Malava, Gujarat, Saurashtra, Tamilnadu, Karnatak, Andhra, Punjab, Sindh, Delhi, Bihar and Bengal.
In this picture-story his life-sketch has been given in brief. Only a few out of the innumerable tales of his miraculous deeds have been included here.
The inspiration for publication of this book was given by Mahasati Shri Shashiprabha Shri Ji M., the learned disciple of Jina Shasan Prabhavika, Pravartini Shri Sajjanshri ji M. Sa. Her inspiration, guidance, and encouragement are responsible for the publication of this book. Therefore, to express gratitude is a mere formality. In fact the whole credit for this publication goes to her.

DADAGURU SHRI JINA KUSHAL SURI
Near Jodhpur is a small town named Gadh Sivana. In ancient times it was called Samiyana. Hundreds of rich Oswal Jain families lived there in fort-like red stone mansions. Each mansion accommodated a large joint family with many servants. Adjacent to these were large yards for cattle, horses and chariots. Each mansion resembled a royal household. The families were rich and united. People from neighbouring areas visited and spent some time exchanging views. All complaints, disputes, and business negotiations were settled at these informal gatherings. The head of a family was called Shah ji. Minister Jesal Shah Chhajed and his wife Jayatshri also lived here in a magnificent mansion.

DADAGURU SHRI JINA KUSHAL SURI
Around that time Dada Gurudev suddenly expired at Deravar. The devotee was ignorant about this. He continued his fasting and meditation of Gurudev. The strong string of devotion drew the attention of Gurudev who was in the divine realm. One night Gurudev appeared before his devotee in person at Malpura and said
mmmmmm
Gurudev has expired at Deravar. Last night he appeared before me on, that rock.
Next morning he told the villagers about the incident.
No one believed him.
O devotee of the Jina! I have abandoned my earthly body at Deravar. You should pursue the path of religion, guru, and the Jina working for the beatitude of the self and others.

I am honoured Gurudev !
You must have dreamt. It is impossible that Gurudev appeared here.
A few days later the news of Gurudev's demise came. After that the villagers went and examined the rock and they found clear imprints of the divine feet of Gurudev etched on the rock.
Look here! How clear are the imprints of feet on this rock.

DADAGURU SHRI JINA KUSHAL SURI
Atimuktak Kumar And The Feeling Of Detachment
It is mentioned on page five that when child Karman Kumar heard the story of Atimuktak Kumar from Acharyashri he was filled with a feeling of detachment. As it is an interesting and inspiring story we reproduce it in brief.
The name of the king of Polaspur was Vijaya and that of his queen was Shridevi. The name of their little son was Atimuktak Kumar (Ayavanta Kumar). He was very charming, delicate and innocent. Once Bhagavan Mahavir came to Polaspur. Ganadhar Indrabhuti came towards the palace while seeking alms. Atimuktak was playing in the courtyard of the palace. When he saw Gautam Swami he was very pleased. He asked, "Sir! Who are you? Why are you walking around?" Gautam Swami introduced himself and said, "I have come here to seek alms?" The prince said, "Please come to my house. My mother will be happy to see you. Please accept alms from her."
Holding the fingers of Gautam Swami the innocent prince lead him straight to the palace. Shridevi was extremely happy to see this. Her joy found no bounds when she saw her son holding the finger of the great Gautam Swami. She paid her homage and was very happy to offer pure food and water as alms.
The prince asked, "Now where will you go ?" Gautam Swami replied, "Now I will go to my religious guru and head of the order." Atimuktak, "Do you also have a guru?"
Gautam Swami, "Yes, Shraman Bhagavan Mahavir is my preceptor. He stays in the garden outside the city."

DADAGURU SHRI JINA KUSHAL SURI
Atimuktak was filled with the curiosity to behold Bhagavan. He accompanied Gautam Swami to the garden. When he saw Bhagavan Mahavir he was filled with joy. When he heard the speech of Bhagavan he was overwhelmed with feelings of detachment. Due to the influence of pious karmas of earlier birth he desired to become an ascetic. He requested, "Bhante! I want to be your disciple." Bhagavan said, "Beloved of gods! Seek permission from your parents and then get initiated. Don't postpone a pious act."
Atimuktak returned home and expressed his desire for initiation to his mother. The mother said, "Son! You are still a child. You are ignorant. What do you know of religion?" The child said, "Mother, I know what I do not know and I do not know what I know. "With surprise the mother said, "What do you mean by that?"
Atimuktak, "Mother! I know that one who is born is certain to die. But I do not know when, where, how, and after how many days he will die. I do not know that what karmas cause a soul to be born as an infernal being, an animal, a human, or a divine being. But I know that it is one's own karmas that lead to such births."
These words of profound intelligence and detachment from her son reassured the mother. At last the parents arranged for his initiation ceremony. He was initiated by Bhagavan Mahavir, studied scriptures including the eleven Angas and got liberated in the end.
